Fancy a challenge? Join Monty in October by taking part in the South West Coast Path Challenge to help protect this 630-mile national trail.
This is one of the most magical trails in Europe and a great way to get into nature. The October Challenge is one of the ways that we can do that and raise money. I’d encourage everyone to create their own challenge, to get out there and enjoy the Path and raise a bit of money while you do it.
It costs £1000 every year to look after 1 mile of Coast Path
‘This weekend, I’ll be at the South West Outdoors Festival where I’ll be celebrating all the fantastic adventure possibilities that exist on the moors, tors and around the coastline of this wonderful region, where my own passion for the outdoors was shaped.
Some of my happiest memories have been out running or walking the South West Coast Path, which snakes right past my house in Dartmouth.’
You could start your own South West Coast Path adventure by joining a 10 Mile organised walk from Minehead on Saturday October 1st or help celebrate the end of the month-long Challenge event by walking the last 10 Miles of Coast Path to Poole on Saturday October 29th.
In between the two 10-mile linear walks, a series of themed walks will be taking place, including a Poldark themed walk and a wildlife walk on the Roseland peninsula with Alex Polizzi no less. To sign up, visit the Challenge web page for more information.
Or you could organise your own event as a great excuse to get family and friends together to enjoy an afternoon beside the sea.
It is as easy as choosing a date in October, a location on the Path and the number of miles – then register your Challenge via the event website (see below) or by calling 01752 896237.
Whether you’re able to take part or not, you could still show your support by sharing an automatically generated post on social media to help spread the word. Simply visit bit.ly/CoastPathThunderclap and sign up via Twitter or Facebook before 1st October.
What will your challenge be?
